Imagine Scenarios for Vallejo’s Future, Today

Vallejoans came together last year to create a set of Guiding Principles for Propel Vallejo, the important ongoing effort to update the City’s General Plan and Zoning Code. Now, community members are invited to join in a more detailed conversation about the future—one that will result in three different possible future scenarios for change in the city.

Each scenario will portray a different approach for addressing Vallejo’s key challenges and making the most of its exciting opportunities. Later this year, the community will weigh in on the best elements of each of these options to include in a Preferred Scenario that will become the basis for the updated General Plan and Zoning Code.

The scenarios focus on eight Opportunity Areas (shown at left). These are parts of the city where significant physical change is foreseeable and where that change can have the most positive impact on sense of place and catalyze economic development, with benefits for social equity and the environment. Vallejoans are being asked to imagine what change in the Opportunity Areas could look like and to share their ideas at a series of four community workshops in the coming weeks.

To allow time for detailed discussion, the four workshops will be grouped into two sets. One set of workshops in February will focus on the southern/western Opportunity Areas, while a second set in March will focus on the northern/eastern Opportunity Areas.
